I’ve lived and worked in Worthing for nearly twenty years, and as the founder of Web Breakfast I’ve been lucky enough to build a creative business right here on the south coast. When you’re done for the day, you don’t have to spend hours commuting - you can take a short cycle to the South Downs national park, stroll around the pier, or grab a coffee in town within minutes. That closeness to nature and community makes a huge difference to quality of life.
Personally, it’s made me far more mindful about when to switch off. Running a business can easily take over every waking moment, but here, it’s much easier to find natural boundaries. Having the Downs on one side and the beach on the other reminds you that there’s more to life than work - and that in turn makes me better at the job.
Worthing has quietly been building up a reputation as a hub for creativity and small business. There’s a strong network of designers, freelancers, and entrepreneurs who all share that balance of ambition and lifestyle. It means collaboration feels organic - you meet like-minded people not just at networking events, but at the café counter, the pier, or the gym.
From my perspective, this kind of community is invaluable. It’s great to know there’s talent locally if you need to collaborate, and equally, there are always opportunities to share knowledge and support each other. It gives Worthing that sense of being “big enough to be exciting, small enough to stay friendly.”
Compared to nearby Brighton or London, Worthing is still more affordable - whether that’s rent, office space, or just day-to-day living. That’s not to say it’s cheap, but it does give you more breathing room. When I started Web Breakfast, having that lower overhead made it far easier to take risks and grow sustainably.
It also means staff and clients can enjoy a better lifestyle here. There’s more space, a slower pace, and the cost of living doesn’t drain all your energy. For many of us, that affordability has been key to building not just careers but lives we’re proud of and that’s worth celebrating!
Worthing is simply a beautiful place to work, and it shows in how often I find myself reaching for a camera. From early-morning light on the pier to the dramatic sunsets over the Downs, the town provides endless inspiration. What I love most about Worthing is that it isn’t standing still. The pier has twice been named “Pier of the Year,” and the town centre has seen a huge amount of improvement during the tiem that we have been here. There’s a strong sense that the people here genuinely care about their community and want to see it thrive.
That pride makes it a fantastic place to work. When your surroundings are improving and evolving, it naturally rubs off on your own sense of ambition and creativity. It feels like being part of a town that’s on the rise, but still grounded in its seaside charm.
